Bliss n’ Chips

Servings: 4
Cooking Time: around 1hr 20Mins

1 x 400g tin of banana blossom in brine
(Prima Italia Organic 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil for cooking)

For the batter:
120 ml cold water
¾ cup plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
Salt and pepper to taste
½ tsp Just Natural Organic ground turmeric

For the coating:
½ plain flour
2 tbsp dried seaweed, crushed
½ tsp salt and pepper

How to Make it

  1. In a large bowl, sift in all dry ingredients and then bit by bit add the water, while stirring. You really are looking for batter-like consistency.
  2. Let sit, covered, in the refrigerator for 1 hr.
  3. On a flat plate, mix the coating ingredients together.
  4. Drain and rinse the banana blossom and separate the pieces.
  5. Coat all your ‘bliss’ pieces, then dip each piece in the batter (shaking off excess) and heat up a large saucepan with the olive oil. Place the coated-battered pieces in.
  6. The cooking will take up to 10 minutes (you’re looking for golden brown hues, here).
  7. Drain excess oil off on some kitchen towel roll and serve hot (with either homemade chips or oven chips – one’s culinary efforts can sometimes only go so far from scratch, you know…).
